The Georgia Film Academy (GFA) is a collaborative effort of the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia supporting workforce needs of the film and digital entertainment industries. GFA Online is a platform for online learning for professionals working in the film industry. Some courses are meant for any film professional or individuals wanting to become a film professional. Other courses are meant for professionals on film productions in the state of Georgia. Creating a GFA Online account will allow you to access GFA online courses. Some courses may be free, while others may be available for purchase.

If you would like to register for a course, please visit our course collections page (copy and paste the webpage address below into your web browser). Then click on the course you need. At that course landing page, click on "Enroll For Free" to gain access to that course. If the course is available for purchase, it will say "Purchase Course" instead of "Enroll For Free." Each course will include lessons like video lessons and quiz lessons. Completing all videos and quizzes is a requirement for earning any certificate of course completion for any GFA Online course. This means that you are required to watch 100% of the duration of each course video and pass each course quiz in order to earn the certificate.

Upon completing a course, the online learning system will take a few moments to auto-generate your certificate of course completion. To access your certificates of course completion, click on "My Account" in the GFA Online interface, and then click on "Certificates." The short answer is: no. The GFA training program is designed to prepare film crews to return, and is being used by many production companies as part of their training. It was designed with collaboration from GDPH, CDC, IATSE and industry professionals. The longer answer is a bit more complicated. There actually is not any formal training, though some general courses about compliance are offered through Johns Hopkins University (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/covid-19-basics/understanding-covid-19) . There is also a course offered through Health Education Services (https://healtheducationservices.net/), though these alone would not necessarily qualify someone for a job. The way the jobs in this brand-new department works is: Health Safety Supervisor – a proven health expert, such as epidemiologists, etc, who oversees the policies. Health Safety Manager – a proven production expert, such as coordinators, ADs, etc, who oversees the implementation of the policies (the procedures). Health Safety Sanitation Officers – kind of like PAs who report to Manager, but ensure wipe-downs and policies/protocols followed. Health Safety Security Officers – kind of like “medics” or “nurses” who run tests, temperature checks, health screenings, etc, for access to set. There are opportunities for people in new jobs as Officers with several major networks and production companies lately, and most of those companies working in the state of Georgia are requiring their new staff to complete our training. The production companies are doing in-house training to adhere to their individual policies and procedures. We’ve been communicating regularly with many of the Health Safety Managers about their programs and their staffing, so that we are in accordance with their expectations.
